Springfield School District’s Bold Vision for 2025-26

There’s a fresh sense of momentum in Springfield School District (SSD) this fall, and it’s more than just the back-to-school excitement. With new leadership at the helm and a bold, community-driven vision for the future, Springfield’s schools are entering an exciting chapter.

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Peter Burrows as our new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Burrows brings a deep commitment to student-centered learning, community collaboration, and educational excellence. His arrival comes at a pivotal time, as the district looks to build on its strengths and create even more opportunities for students to thrive.
Over the spring and summer, SSD brought the entire community together to reflect on what’s working in our schools and where we can grow. That collaboration resulted in a Development Plan Report, an honest, in-depth look at where we are today and the goals we need to set in order to meet our aspirations as a learning community.

A Plan Rooted in Purpose

From this reflection emerged the SSD 2025-26 Action Plan, focused on three essential areas that will shape the future of education in Springfield:

  1. Developing an Instructional Framework
  2. Building a Cohesive Literacy Framework
  3. Fostering Professional Learning and Growth

These focus areas aim to strengthen district-wide coherence and harness the full power of Springfield’s resources, educators, and community partnerships. The work ahead is rooted in systems development, and just as importantly, in inclusion. Forums, surveys, and community events will continue to invite voices from all across town into the process.

Why This Matters for Springfield

Strong schools are the heart of strong communities. Whether you’re a current or prospective resident, business owner, or visitor, the vitality of our local education system plays a role in shaping Springfield’s future.
  • For families, this action plan signals a deep investment in student achievement, literacy, and learning supports.
  • For businesses, it reflects a growing pipeline of educated, skilled talent supported by professional development and cutting-edge instruction.
  • For our community at large, it’s a shared commitment to equity, innovation, and opportunity.

Looking Ahead

As we move through the school year, we’ll continue to share updates, celebrate progress, and spotlight the people and programs driving change. With a community as dedicated as ours, the future looks bright for Springfield’s students and for the town they’ll grow up to lead.
Because here in Springfield, we don’t just believe in possibility, we plan for it.
