Springfield VT Food Drive Fills Shelves and Hearts Before Thanksgiving

Springfield, Vermont once again showed its giving spirit through a powerful community tradition: the Springfield VT Food Drive Contest. In the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, students from Springfield Elementary, Riverside Middle, and Springfield High School joined forces to tackle food insecurity close to home.
Their mission? Collect as many nonperishable items as possible for the Springfield Family Center a local nonprofit that serves nearly 1,000 people in need each month.
The result: more than 2,000 food donations, all gathered and delivered in time to support local families for the holiday season.

Springfield Students Step Up for the Community

This friendly competition between schools is more than a feel-good story, it’s a clear example of how young people in Springfield are stepping up to make a difference. Students organized donation drives, promoted the effort within their schools, and collected hundreds of essential food items, showing just how strong Springfield’s community values are.

“It’s a good way for our school to help out our community,” shared one student. “Everyone deserves food during the holidays.”

“This is about more than just canned goods,” said the Family Center team. “It’s about showing up for your neighbors.”
