Fresh Greens and Local Goodness Bloom at New North Springfield Farm Market

Get ready, Springfield! Just in time for planting season and with Mother’s Day around the corner, a fantastic new local spot is opening its doors. The Baltimore Road Greenhouse & Farm, located at the historic former Coger’s Sugarhouse and Gardens property at 15 Baltimore Road in North Springfield, is set to welcome its first customers next Friday, May 2nd.
This exciting new venture is the passion project of the Cormier family, Matt, Cynthia, their three kids, and two dogs , who are busily preparing to open. While they’re new to this specific spot, the Cormiers are seasoned pros when it comes to farm life, having previously run a 100-acre farm in Maine. They’re no strangers to hard work and the rewards of bringing fresh, local goods to the community.
The Cormiers are eager to plant roots (pun intended!) in Springfield and become a lasting part of our community. Matt and Cynthia, along with their children, are looking forward to getting to know their new neighbors.
Many longtime residents will fondly remember the property as Coger’s Sugarhouse and Gardens, which was a beloved part of Springfield for years before closing about a decade ago. Owners Gayle and Michael Morabito did incredible work establishing the greenhouses, the horse barn, and the beautiful stone work that accents the property. The well-maintained, sprawling 21-plus acre space, nestled amongst our picturesque rocky, rolling hills above the intersection of Baltimore Road and Routes 10/106, was a perfect fit for the Cormiers.

Matt noted how grateful he was that the property was in such great shape, allowing them to focus on setting up their business right away. Having worked as a contractor in the southern Vermont area for over 20 years, Matt was already familiar with the region’s charm and natural beauty, something he and Cynthia always enjoyed during visits to Cynthia’s sister in nearby Charlestown, N.H. When they discovered the old Coger property, Matt knew immediately, “This is it” he told the Vermont Journal.

Step into the main greenhouse, and you’ll find it bursting with a vibrant array of plants and hanging baskets, ready to liven up your home and garden. The selection will grow with the season, soon including peppers, tomatoes, herbs, and vegetables, followed by pumpkins and mums in the fall.
But it’s not just about the plants! The farm market will be a treasure trove of local goodies. Initially, you can find Cynthia’s delicious baked treats like sourdough and nut bread, cinnamon rolls, and homemade granola. They’ll also be selling their own raised chicken and pork, farm-fresh eggs, beef sourced from local farms, coffee, honey, fresh produce, and come fall, be on the lookout for cider donuts!
The Cormiers are truly community-minded and want to stock what Springfield residents are looking for. They plan to listen to customer feedback to shape their year-round offerings. Looking ahead, they have exciting plans to potentially add a commercial kitchen, a small coffee bar, and even bring in dairy cows to sell raw milk down the road.
This is more than just a business for the Cormiers; it’s a family affair. Matt shared that their children are already enjoying helping out, and they hope that one day, one of them might take over the farm. Adding to the family involvement, Cynthia’s sister’s two older daughters will also be working at the greenhouse and farm, making Baltimore Road a truly family-run operation.

The Baltimore Road Greenhouse & Farm will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This wonderful new addition is sure to bring fresh life and local flavor to North Springfield and the entire community!
