Microtransit Is Coming to Springfield: Here’s What You Need to Know

Microtransit
This fall, Springfield is taking a bold step forward in modernizing local transportation—and it’s all about convenience, access, and community. Starting in early September 2025, the traditional Springfield In-Town Bus Route will evolve into a brand-new microtransit system—free, flexible, and designed with YOU in mind.

What Is Microtransit?

Think of microtransit as a local, public version of rideshare—like an Uber or Lyft—but it’s free and designed for our Springfield community. Riders can book on-demand trips within the Town of Springfield and North Springfield using a smartphone app, a website, or even just by calling the SEVT (Southeast Vermont Transit) office.
Whether you need to get to work, the grocery store, a doctor’s appointment, or visit friends across town, microtransit makes it easier to get there—no car required.

Key Features of Springfield’s Microtransit

  • Service Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM (excluding holidays)

  • Booking Options: Call 1-888-869-6287, use the app, or book online

  • Curb-to-Curb Rides: No fixed stops—get picked up and dropped off right at your location

  • Shared Trips: You may ride with others—expect a quick, efficient route

  • Fare-Free: Yes, it’s 100% FREE to ride

Why the Shift from Fixed Route to Microtransit?

This is all about increasing equity and accessibility in how we move around Springfield. Here’s how microtransit will improve your experience:
  • Expanded Hours: From 9:00 AM–4:00 PM to 6:00 AM–6:00 PM

  • More Reach: Now everyone in town—not just those along the old bus route—has access

  • Faster, Smarter Travel: With wait times aimed at 30 minutes or less, your time matters

What It Means for Current Bus Riders

If you’ve been a regular on Route 1, rest assured: you’ll still have service—but better. Microtransit brings more flexibility and more destinations. And if technology isn’t your thing, you don’t need internet or a smartphone—just call us and we’ll take care of the rest.

Let’s move Springfield forward—together.

Let’s Build It Together

Springfield’s new microtransit service is funded by the Town of Springfield, the Vermont Agency of Transportation, and the Northern Border Regional Commission, and supported by the Springfield Regional Development Corporation (SRDC).
This is a big leap forward for our town—better service, better access, and a better-connected community.
